COMMUNITY-BASED PLANNING

Community Planning to facilitate the social and professional integration of Youth between the ages of 16 and 30 in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Côte-Saint-Luc, Hampstead and Montreal-West

A project by the Carrefour Jeunesse-emploi NDG and the Table de Concertation Jeunesse NDG

Why develop a community-based planning?

Organizations involved with neighbourhood youth do a remarkable job facilitating the integration of youth in society and professional life. Despite these efforts, many young people face great socio-professional difficulties including school drop out, unemployment and/or social exclusion.

Since October 2007, the Carrefour Jeunesse-emploi NDG, in partnership with the Table de Concertation Jeunesse NDG, has collaborated with Service Canada on a community planning project in order to establish a diagnostic of the socio-professional integration of local youth.

This planning strategy has brought together the principle players implicated in the socio-professional integration of youth and in order to share expertise, to build bridges between existing services and to identify courses of action for the future.

What are the results ?

• A NEEDS ASSESSMENT STUDY for the social and professional integration of youth

• A STATISTICAL PORTRAIT of youth

• A DIRECTORY of local resources and services

• A FORUM allowing community players to better share their points of view on the issues and possible courses of action

• A CONCERTED ACTION PLAN

Forum : Stepping into the future ! / L’avenir entre nos mains !

June 11th 2008 at Saint-Raymond’s community Centre

The Stepping into the future / L’avenir entre nos mains forum was the crucial event of the Community planning project. Close to 150 people were present, among whom 50 were youth. Others who attended the event included youth workers, community organizations, employers, politicians, members of local institutions as well as foundation representatives.

This event allowed participants to consider and exchange information on the obstacles met by youth in order to identify concerted intervention paths to better answer their needs. Many thanks to everybody who have collaborated to make this event a success.
